I’m Ashley Womble, MPH—a mom, writer, and mental health advocate.
When I became a mom in 2018, I experienced firsthand how mental health takes on new urgency in pregnancy and postpartum. The research was clear: a mother’s mental health directly impacts her baby. And my own experience confirmed what studies show—therapy and medication help, but daily practices and real community support are what make lasting resilience possible.
I created Mentally Strong Moms to help moms prioritize their mental health and build resilience.
Becoming mentally strong isn’t just a personal aspiration, it’s critical for keeping my family healthy and happy. For the past decade, I’ve made it my business to change the way people think about mental health by leading public affairs and communications at Crisis Text Line, National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, and now at a mental health tech company, Brave Health. I have a Masters in Public Health (MPH) and certification in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C).
In 2022, I had the privilege of helping launch the first-ever National Maternal Mental Health Hotline, a 24/7 call and text line funded by Congress. It was built for mothers in their hardest moments—at 2 a.m. feedings, in hospital parking lots, or during the quiet breakdowns that happen in bathroom stalls.
And I wrote a book, Everything Is Going to Be OK: A Real Talk Guide to Living Well with Mental Illness, to help people navigate the road from symptoms to treatment.
During the isolating early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, I created a small virtual support group and course for moms like me—tired, anxious, and trying to hold it all together. What started as a lifeline quickly grew into a community, proving what I already knew deep down: moms don’t just need encouragement, they need tools, structure, and permission to take their mental health seriously.
That seed grew into Mentally Strong Moms a resource designed to deliver exactly that.
